The Outpost Safari Lodge is situated in the most remote part of Kruger National Park, in a wilderness area previously uninhabited by visitors to the Park. The Outpost Safari Lodge is the first lodge in Kruger National Park to be built in this vast region.
The Outpost Lodge accommodates guests in 12 stand alone en-suite living spaces that are placed alongside a walkway on the side of a hill overlooking the Luvuvhu River.
The Makuleke Region falls in the epicentre of the Great Limpopo Park, which comprises Kruger National Park, the Gaza National Park in Mozambique and the Gonarezhou National Park in Zimbabwe.
This visionary park has become a reality and guests The Outpost Safari Lodge are able to visit the Mozambican and Zimbabwean parts of the Peace Park without requiring visas and without having to exit the Peace Park.

Accommodation:
The Outpost Lodge accommodates guests in 12 stand-alone en-suite rooms that are placed alongside a walkway half way up a hill. These beautifully appointed rooms overlook the Luvuvhu River. Each room also consists of a mini bar; mosquito net and remote controlled weather screen.
The rooms have modern foldaway glass sides and a frontage offering 180-degree views of the Luvuvhu River Valley. The open feel of the rooms is extended into the bathroom where guests can admire a view extending as far as Mozambique.
The Outpost Lodge strives to provide excellent cuisine and care is taken to source the best produce.

Location:
The Makuleke Region, Kruger National Park, formerly known as the Pafuri region, is bordered to the north by the Limpopo and Zimbabwe and to the east by Crooks Corner and Zimbabwe.
The Outpost Lodge region in Kruger National Park measures some 28 000 hectares, it is well known for its abundant wildlife including less common species not evident in the southern and central regions of the park.
Apart from large herds of Elephant and Buffalo, guests will be able to see Nyala and Tsessebe Antelope on their safari in South Africa. The diverse terrain of the region includes Mopane woodlands, Fever tree forests, Acacia thickets as well as some of the largest and oldest Baobab specimens.
Directions to Punda Maria Gate: From Johannesberg/Gauteng: follow the N1 to Pretoria, and then on to Polokwane (previously Pietersburg). Continue on to Makhado (previously Louis Trichardt). From there take the R524, all the way to the PUNDA MARIA GATE. Here you should obtain a map of the Parks' internal roads. This route will provide you with a short drive through the Parks' far northern region in a semi-circle around toward the Parfuri Gate.
Directions to Parfuri Gate: From Johannesberg/Gauteng: follow the N1 to Pretoria, and then on to Polokwane (previously Pietersburg). Continue on through Makhado (previously Louis Trichardt), until you reach the R525 and the Tshipise turn-off. Drive on through Tshipise and directly to the PARFURI GATE, where you should obtain a map of the Parks' internal roads. This is the most direct route to The OutPost in Makuleke Region, Kruger National Park.

Activities:
Game drives will be conducted by qualified and experienced guides in open-air four wheel drive vehicles on your safari in South Africa. Hiking and birding or a game drive in the early mornings and late afternoons are available at the Outpost Lodge. Walks will be conducted for your safari in South Africa in parts of the region not accessible to vehicles including the spectacular Lanner Gorge.
The Makuleke Region is renowned for its birding and guests may be able to see Scarlett chested sunbirds, Broadbilled rollers, Redheaded weavers, Wattle-eyed flycatchers and Owls such as the Pels Fishing Owl, the Scops, Whitefaced, Pearl-Spotted and Giant Eagle Owl on their safari in South Africa.
The region's rich historical and cultural heritage, can be explored by guided visits to Crooks Corner and the Thulamela archaeological site overlooking the Luvuvhu River. Articles dating from 1460 to 1640 have been found tying them to the last phase of the Zimbabwe culture. Guests can also visit a Makuleke Village and learn about the history of the Makuleke people under the guidance of a Makuleke guide.
Guests are offered a choice of a long / short game drive in the morning and again in the mid afternoon for their safari in South Africa. River safaris offer game spotting in the silence of The Outpost's flat-bottomed boat.
