What to Do and See in Park North

Nyalaland Wilderness Trail, Punda Maria, Kruger Park North, South Africa

Punda Maria rest camp in the far north of the park is the base for a guided walk through the 'botanical garden' of the Kruger. The two day Nyalaland Wilderness trail meanders past the banks of the Madzaringwe stream north of the rest camp and highlights include the spectacular Lanner Gorge and a fever tree forest.

Although the entire Big Five is not in residence in these wild parts, you just might bump into a buffalo or an elephant. The overnight bush camps have running water and flush toilets so you won't have to leave behind all the comforts of home. And if that sounds a little too adventurous, the Paradise Flycatcher nature trail laid out at Punda Maria does not require armed guard.

Thulamela Hill, Kruger National Park North, South Africa

In the Pafuri area at the far northern tip of the park, the reconstructed stone walls mark the fact that this hill and its surrounds have been occupied by humans for countless thousands of years. An important late Iron Age archaeological site, the enigmatic earth has yielded gold and ostrich shell beads pointing to occupation in the 15th to 17th centuries as well. Daily guided tours can be booked at Punda Maria rest camp.
