    Location:

Plains Camp Tented Safari Lodge is located in a private concession in Kruger National Park, South Africa. The area is only 20 minutes from Skukuza, the heart of Kruger National Park, so getting there is easy by air or by road.

The Kruger Park region has a subtropical climate with hot rainy summers and startling thunderstorms starting in October and ending around March. Traditionally, the best game viewing is in winter as the vegetation becomes sparse.

How to get there: Directions to Plains Camp/Rhino Post Camp

From Johannesburg, take the N12 / N4 highway to Nelspruit. From Nelspruit, take the R40 through White River and onto Hazyview. At Hazyview turn right onto the R536 towards Paul Kruger Gate, Kruger National Park.

Once through the gate, drive straight for approximately 12km. You will reach a 4-way crossing. Proceed straight across for another 2km until you reach a T-junction. Turn left at this junction and continue for approximately one kilometre until you reach another 4-way crossing, turn right.

You will cross a low water bridge (over Sabi River), approximately 4km later you will cross the Sand River. Keep heading straight, past the dirt road on the left signposted Maroela Loop, 6km further, you will pass another dirt road, also signposted 'Maroela Loop'.

Approximately one kilometre after the second dirt road you will see a dirt road on the left signposted 'Rhino Walking Safaris'. Take this turning and proceed for 2.5km, the road will then turn sharply left, after which you will travel another 2.7km, leading you directly to Rhino Post.

    Activities:

Plains Camp Tented Safari Lodge allows guests to explore the 12 000 hectare private wilderness area in the Kruger National Park. Bush walks and night and morning game drives are conducted by qualified guides.

A typical day at Plains Camp includes an early morning walking trail within the vicinity of Plains Camp. Professional guides accompany you as you follow Rhino trails and Elephant paths for 3-4 hours. The duration of the trail is dependant on the fitness level of the group. There will be a break for light refreshments en-route.

Guests return to camp for brunch and have time to relax before setting out by vehicle, for the afternoon walking trail. You will leave the vehicle at the designated location and explore the area on foot with your guides. You will then return to the vehicle for sundowner drinks and light snacks. The drive back to camp serves as an evening game drive where you can look for the nocturnal animals of the Kruger National Park.
