Maroela Private Camp is tucked away in the bushveld and overlooks the Timbavati River. This accommodation is the perfect starting point for wildlife hungry campers. Maroela is a satellite camp of Orpen Main Rest Camp in Kruger Park. The Timbavati riverbed is an excellent place to spot the elusive Leopard.
At Maroela Camp, guests stay in their own caravan or tent on 20 campsites with power point. Maroela offers camping accommodation. Communal ablution and kitchen facilities are available but no crockery and cutlery. The camp does not have a restaurant or shop facilities.

Accommodation:
As Maroela Private Camp is managed from a main camp, this accommodation of the Kruger Park is called a satellite camp. The unique camp offers only campsite accommodation for guests bringing their own caravans or tents. Maroela Camp does not have pre-erected accommodation structures. There is a rustic viewing platform which overlooks the Timbavati River.
Campsite: Maroela Private Camp comprises 19 tent/caravan sites with power points. A maximum of 6 guests is allowed per site per caravan plus a side-tent and vehicle. If guests camp with a small tent, another tent will be allowed on the campsite. The camp does not offer restaurant or shop facilities but a communal kitchen is available as well as communal ablutions. Cooking facilities do not include crockery and cutlery. The Maroela Private Camp's check in is at Orpen Rest Camp.

Location:
Maroela Private Camp is situated in the central region of the Kruger National Park on the banks of the Timbavati River. Bounded by the Olifants River in the north and River Sabi in the south, the central region of the Park offers wide grassland with some of the best scenery. The Lebombo Mountains form the central region's boundary with Mozambique.
Maroela Private Camp is located close to other Kruger Park rest camps such as Orpen Main Rest Camp (2km, 1.2 miles), Olifants Camp (104km, 64.6 miles) and Talamati Bushveld Camp (32km, 19.9 miles).
How to get there:
Departing from Johannesburg and Pretoria: Head towards Nelspruit on the N4, take the R540 Belfast turn off. At Lydenburg turn left onto the R36 heading north. 30 km before Hoedspruit turn right onto the R531 and head to Orpen Gate. Allow between 4 to 5 hours for the trip to the gate. Maroela satellite camp is approximately 3 km away from the gate. Allow about 10 minutes for the drive to the camp.

Activities:
Maroela Private Camp offers a wide range of activities from the traditional game drive to interesting excursions and delicious picnics. Mobile frying pans on stands can be hired at most picnic sites for a nominal fee. The picnic site attendent then washes these on departure, thus freeing visitors from transporting greasy pans.
Muzandzeni picnic site is located near the junction of the S36 and S126 about 30 km from Satara, Nhlanguleni on the S36, midway between Skukuza and Orpen and Timbavati near the junction of the S40 and S127, on the banks of the Timbavati River.
Birding: Maroela Private Camp is well known for excellent bird watching opportunities. In the plains east of Orpen Camp you can see the nomadic Senegal Plover(Lesser Blackwinged Plover), Montagu's Harrier and White-faced Duck. In Kruger National Park, there are eleven bird/ game-viewing hides, one of which is Ratel Pan Bird Hide located on the S39 about 4km north of Timbavati Picnic Site.
Game: The surrounding areas offer also excellent game viewing. Herds of Wildebeest and Zebra graze next to the road, while Impala, Warthog, Giraffe and Elephant are common. Lion, Cheetah and Leopard are likely to be seen. All game drives are conducted in open safari vehicles accompanied by experienced and qualified safari guides. Morning and day walks are a unique opportunity to spot smaller animals and learn more about the plants of the African bush.
