Tamboti is one of Kruger Park's several tent/caravan camping sites overlooking the Timbavati River. • Location:

Tamboti is situated in the central region of Kruger National Park on the banks of the usually dry Timbavati River. Tamboti is, due to the size and location, one of the most popular Kruger Park restcamps so early booking is advised. Tamboti Tent Camp is set among large riverine trees on the road to Satara Rest Camp. Visitors to Tamboti gain access at Orpen Gate.

Tamboti Camp is located close to other Kruger Park restcamps. Orpen Main Rest Camp is only about 2km (1.2 miles) away. To Olifants Camp it is about 104km (64.6 miles) and to Talamati Bushveld Camp 32km (19.9 miles).

    How to get there:

Departing from Johannesburg and Pretoria: Head toward Nelspruit on the N4, take the R540 Belfast turn off. At Lydenburg turn left onto the R36 heading north. 30 km before Hoedspruit turn right onto the R531 and head to Orpen gate. Allow between 4 to 5 hours for the trip to the gate. Tamboti satellite camp is approximately 4 km away from the gate. Allow about 10 minutes for the drive to the camp.

    Activities:

Tamboti Tent Camp is the ideal place for interesting excursions. Game drives introduce you to the Big Five as well as an amount of other predators and wildlife. All game drives are conducted in open safari vehicles accompanied by experienced safari guides. On bush walks, you see the smaller animals often missed on game drives. Guests can also spend some time in the camp's bird hide to see not only a plenty of birds but Leopard and other animals as well. After an exciting game activity you can relax at one of the Kruger Park restcamps' picnic sites where mobile frying pans on stands can be hired for a nominal fee.

    Game:
The area surrounding Tamboti Tent Camp offers excellent game viewing opportunities. Herds of Zebra and Wildebeest can be spotted en-route from Orpen to Satara. Giraffe, Elephant, Warthog and Impala are also common. Driving through the pleasant scenery to the Timbavati River, Cheetah, Lion and Leopard are likely to be seen.

    Birding:
Tamboti Camp boasts a bird hide which offers excellent bird watching opportunities. Visitors sitting there for some time see much more wildlife then others participating in guided game drives. African Rail, Comb Ducks (Knob-billed Ducks) and Lesser Moorhen breed in the flooded vegetation at Rabelais Pan. Marabu Stork is frequently seen at the waterhole outside Orpen Camp.
