Shimuwini is a Shangaan word that means 'Place of the Baobab'. This camp is so named because of the Letaba River that is lined with these majestic trees. Shimuwini offers Kruger Park accommodation in 15 cottages spread out along the Shimuwini Dam, each boasting its own barbecue (braai) facilities and solar panels for lights and fans only.

Accommodation:
Enjoy lovely Kruger Park accommodation in family cottages for a maximum of 71 guests at a time at Shimuwini Camp. These cottages boast incredible views over the water of the Shimuwini River, a hub of activity for game and waterbirds alike. You might even spot a Hippo cooling down in the water, or a Crocodile basking open mouthed on the riverbank.
Shimuwini offers two 9 bedded family cottages for 5 guests, fully equipped with a ceiling fan and en suite bathroom. The 5, two bedroomed guest cottages have 2 single bedded bedrooms and ceiling fans. Each of these cottages boasts its own kitchen-dining room on an open verandah.
There is also one 3 bedroomed cottage at this Kruger Park accommodation with 2 single beds, a ceiling fan, en suite bathroom with a bath and toilet and an outside shower for delightful showers under the African sky.
The living room houses 2 lounge chairs, a ceiling fan, and a kitchen with oven and stove. The outside dining room offers a sink, fridge, cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery to self catering guests.

Location:
Shimuwini Camp is situated in the northern region of the Kruger National Park in South Africa. This region is home to a diverse range of wildlife, bird life and vegetation, especially along the banks of the Shimuwini River.
How to get there:
Directions from Johannesburg/Pretoria:
Take the N1 toll-road to Polokwane. Forty kilometres (24 miles) before reaching Polokwane, turn right onto the R71 and head for Tzaneen. After Tzaneen, travel towards Phalaborwa to the Phalaborwa Gate in Kruger National Park. Please allow 6-7 hours for this trip to the gate.
Shimuwini is situated approximately 50 kilometres (31 miles) from the gate. Allow 2 hours for your trip from the gate to the camp, however, if you want to enjoy some game viewing, give yourself more time.

Activities:
Morning game drives in the Park afford the opportunity to view many of Kruger Park’s famous wildlife. These game drives depart at 04:30 am in summer and 05:30 am during the winter months for duration of about 4 hours. Night game drives open you up to the nocturnal world of the Park. This is a time when the elusive and secretive creatures awake in search for food after a day of rest.
Guided bush walks are conducted by experienced, armed guides a take a group of about 8 people. Here you will get the chance to track Rhino and Lion of foot, and learn more about the smaller aspects of the Park and its inhabitants.
Possible game sightings in this region of the Park include Lion, Cheetah, Leopard, Hyena, Giraffe, Kudu, Impala, Wildebeest, Zebra, Duiker, Hippo, Crocodile, Sable, Roan, Eland, Tsessebe, Waterbuck, Baboon and Buffalo.
