  • Shingwedzi Restcamp in Kruger Park is situated in a peaceful clearing along the Shingwedzi River, and accommodates visitors in many comfortable bungalows and a luxury guesthouse.

    Things to do at Shingwedzi include tracking wildlife and birds on foot, day and night game drives and heart-racing game walks. Enjoy an evening bush barbecue while listening to the fascinating night sounds such as the whoop of the Hyena and the frog-like call of the Mocambique nightjar.

    Shingwedzi Restcamp's Inyati Restaurant serves gourmet meals while traditional music set the mood. Visitors can expect excellent service and mouthwatering cuisine at Shingwedzi Camp's restaurant.


    Accommodation:

    Most of Shingwedzi Camp's huts are 3-bedded and are fitted with air-conditioning, fans, en-suite bathrooms and a verandah. There are 4 bungalows that have been adapted to assist visitors with mobility difficulties.

    Some bungalows at this Kruger Park lodging have their own showers, while the other huts are served by two ablution blocks. Shingwedzi Restcamp's Rentmeester Guesthouse offers more luxurious and comfortable accommodation to up to 7 people.

    Camp sites at Shingwedzi have electrified stands, communal kitchens, 24-hour boiling water and washing up and ablution facilities (one which is modified for those with mobility difficulties).


    Location:

    Shingwedzi Camp in Kruger Park can be reached by either road or air. If traveling by car, enter the Punda Maria Gate, which is just over 5 hours traveling distance from Johannesburg. Visitors can also fly in to the Phalaborwa Airport, where you can hire a vehicle.

    How to get there from Johannesburg/Pretoria:

    By road to Punda Maria Gate:

    From Johannesburg, take the N1 to Polokwane (Pietersburg), at Makhado (Louis Trichard) link up with the R524. Follow this route for ±140 kilometres (87 miles) and that will take you to the gate. Allow between 5 to 6 hours for the trip to Punda Maria Gate. Shingwedzi Main Rest Camp is 71 kilometres (44 miles) away from the gate and it will take approximately 3 hours to reach the camp.


    Activities:

    Shingwedzi Camp visitors can track wildlife and birds on foot, or head off on exciting game viewing drives. Night drives enable you to experience Kruger night life and its nocturnal creatures. Bush barbecues can be arranged at Shingwedzi Camp.
